The Rejection Poject
The Rejection Project 518 is a collaborative, intergenerational, community-based theatre piece that explores the concept of rejection in its many forms. Based entirely in Albany County, project is sponsored in part by a NYSCA Community Arts Decentralization Grant through The Arts Center of the Capital Region and fiscally-sponsored by The Social Justice Center of Albany.
This project will devise a multi-media, ensemble-based theatre performance that addresses the concept of rejection through a process of conducting interviews and sourcing written responses from a diverse pool of community members of all races, gender and sexual orientations, ages, and class backgrounds. The piece will uncover both the oppressive and empowering capacities of being rejected and of actively rejecting, and how we fight back against systems that police certain bodies and minds. We will explore the theme through various lenses including interpersonal relationships, illness, social constructions, and conceptions of success and failure, among others.
