A Musical and Artistic Interpretation of Albany’s Inner City Green Spaces: visual art exhibition presented by Dylan Perrillo
Join us for the opening reception of A Musical and Artistic Interpretation of Albany’s Inner City…
Friday, May 10th, Albany Barn hosted this year’s 2nd performance of From the Page to the Stagepoetry and spoken word workshop.
This installment was a result of the success of our February workshop, where two local poets, Kevin Peterson and Thom Francis of Albany Poets, teamed up with students from Brighter Choice Middle School for Girls.
The poetry workshop was so well received that Brighter Choice Middle School has decided to offer it as a full time, after-school program next year. In preparation for this new program, a second workshop was held, this time inviting students from the boys’ school as well. A total of ten students, from both the boy’s and girl’s school took the stage Friday, to perform their own written pieces in front of friends, family, teachers, and community members alike.
Students committed to six weeks of learning how to compose, and perform an original piece, and their hard work clearly paid off. Albany Barn was proud to host these young artists at their Stage 1 exhibition space. The work that the students produced was inspiring to say the least, and each one performed their poems like seasoned professionals. We look forward to hosting many more performances from these talented individuals! Videos and pictures from the event can be seen here.
