Albany Barn is proud to host resident artists Raina Briggs’ solo exhibition, Battle Tools. Battle Tools explores the spectrum of femininity through the intersection of Fine Art and Traditional tattoos. The women in the paintings are surrounded by traditional tattoo iconography such as weaponry, and given exaggerated features similar to that of a pinup. The imagery is used to accentuate and question expectations of femininity, and unite two exceptionally different cultures. The juxtaposition of these ideas reveals the complexity of womanhood, and aims to show power and strength as equally feminine traits to traditional stereotypes like physical appearance. The body of work represents an ever-present personal journey with womanhood and femininity.
The body of work will be on display until June 16th.
