I AM: Albany

On Friday, August 3, Albany Barn will present a new exhibition at Stage 1, Albany Barn’s storefront art space located at 46 North Swan Street, called “I AM: Albany,” a collection of self portraits taken by students at Arbor Hill Elementary School.  I AM: Albany will open in conjunction with the monthly “1st Friday” arts walk from 5pm to 9pm.  Refreshments will be served and the 1st Friday Trolley will provide complimentary transportation to and from Stage 1. Admission is free.

Albany Barn, Inc. will present “Letter Head” on Friday, July 6, 2012, at Stage 1, a community art space located at 46 North Swan Street in Albany. A reception will be held from 5:00pm – 9:00pm in conjunction with the monthly “1st Friday” arts walk in the City of Albany. Refreshments will be served and the 1st Friday Trolley will provide complimentary transportation to and from the venue. Music by DJ O.F.I.  Admission is free.

Mural at Stage 1

Albany Barn proudly presents a new mural by local artists MC3 and Rico Pendejo (collectively “StraightCrooked”) at Stage 1, Albany Barn’s community art space located at 46-48 North Swan Street. The mural will be on view during the opening reception for “Lost and Found,” a photo retrospective of the abandoned St. Joseph’s Academy building, on Friday, June 1, 2012 from 5:00pm – 9:00pm, and will become a permanent part of the facility. Admission to Stage 1 is free.

Lost and Found

ALBANY, NY — Albany Barn will hold an opening reception for “Lost and Found,” a photo retrospective of the abandoned St. Joseph’s Academy building, on Friday, June 1, 2012 from 5:00pm – 9:00pm at Stage 1, Albany Barn’s community art space located at 46-48 North Swan Street. The reception takes place in conjunction with the monthly “1st Friday” arts walk in the City of Albany and the 1st Friday Trolley will provide complimentary transportation to and from the venue. Upstate New York band, Giles Bennett and the Petrified Woods, will perform live. Admission is free.

Albany Barn has partnered with the Albany Housing Authority and the City of Albany to redevelop St. Joseph’s, a long-vacant former school building in the Arbor Hill neighborhood, into a permanent creative arts incubator and community arts center in Albany, NY called The Barn. “Lost and Found” will feature photos of St. Joseph’s taken by photographers Jesse Bouley, Paul Gallo, Darren Ketchum and Julia Zave prior to the start of renovations in February 2012.

Real World Education

ALBANY, NY  — Albany Barn, Inc. will present “UniverCITY” on Friday, May 4, 2012, at Stage 1, Albany Barn’s headquarters and community art space located at 46-48 North Swan Street. A reception will be held from 5:00pm – 9:00pm in conjunction with the monthly “1st Friday” arts walk in the City of Albany. Refreshments will be served and the 1st Friday Trolley will provide complimentary transportation to and from the venue. The artwork will be on display throughout May. Admission is free.

Albany Barn and the Albany Poets will also present “From the Page to the Stage,” a poetry and spoken word performance by teenagers who participated in a workshop led by Dan Wilcox and Mojavi Wright. The performance will be emceed by Thom Francis. The program was made possible in part through a Community Art$Grant, a program funded by the Arts Center of the Capital Region through the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency.
