Artist Bio

Graciela J. Cain (they/them) is an artist, musician, and DJ born in Jacksonville, Florida, with Black and Mexican heritage. Their practice centers on composition, sound, and performance, drawing on archival recordings, field recordings, and dance music traditions drawing from Afro-Latinx diasporic culture. Graciela’s multilayered works blend sound, storytelling, and collective movement, often exploring how enslaved people in the U.S. South used music and fabric as tools of refusal and resistance. Through their approach, Graciela brings hidden histories and communal rhythms into the present, inviting deep listening and participation.
