Your brand is an image or mental picture for someone when they think about you or something associated with you. A brand distinguishes you from other job search candidates, and your brand is essential to your success. Learn how to build your unique brand with a balance between real networking and social networking. Most people spend far too much time on the Internet applying for jobs and too little time using the #1 job search technique: networking. During this session, you will learn how to develop an elevator speech, how to work a room, and unlock the three Circles of Influence. LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional networking site. With over 400 million registered users, LinkedIn is often referred to as the “Facebook for Professionals.” It is an enormously powerful tool for enhancing the visibility of your resume, building credibility, and managing your Club of Professionals. If someone is thinking about hiring you, they will definitely search for you online. Your online reputation IS your reputation. About Dr. Tom:
Dr. Tom Denham is a Career Counselor, Motivational Speaker, Athlete and Accomplished Mountain Climber.
Many in the higher education and business community regard Dr. Tom as a leading authority and much-sought-after speaker on career development, marketing, entrepreneurship
and work/life balance. His enthusiasm helps him to quickly connect with people and inspire them to take action.
Dr. Tom has over twenty four years of experience in career services including positions at Skidmore and Union Colleges, Harvard, St. Lawrence and Boston Universities. As the Director of the Siena College Career Center, students honored him as the 2000 Administrator of the Year.
He founded Careers In Transition LLC, a private practice in career services, which focuses on career counseling for individuals and consulting services for institutional clients in business, education and government. Dr. Tom also founded Northeast Public Radio’s award winning talk show, The Career Forum. He has appeared on more than 200 television and radio programs. He has given more than 175 speeches published over 200 articles and writes a career column for TimesUnion.com. He has been quoted in Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, About.com, PBS.org, CareerBuilder.com, the Boston Globe, the Los Angeles Times and the New York Times. He is a contributing writer for five books. Dr. Tom is also the Director of Career Counseling Initiatives for InternBridge.com
In 2006, he was selected as one of the Albany Business Review’s “40 Under Forty” honorees, that recognizes young professionals making a difference in business and in the community. The Guilderland Chamber of Commerce unanimously honored him as the 2008 Small Business Person of the Year. Academically, Dr. Tom earned his bachelors from St. Lawrence University, his masters from Boston University and his doctorate from Nova Southeastern University.
He also founded the adventure consulting practice, Dr. Adventure, whose mission is to help people explore the great outdoors. Dr. Tom is an accomplished athlete and adventurer. When he was only 18, he cycled 250 miles through the Adirondacks in less than 48 hours. At 19, he ran the New York City Marathon in less than 4 hours. He has since competed in over forty 5k races on his way to running 100 before he turns 50 years old. Dr. Tom has ice climbed over 50 routes including 2 first ascents. In addition, he has climbed over 200 mountains including some of America’s most iconic peaks: Mt. Hood, Mt. Rainier, The Grand Teton, Mt. Shasta, Devils Tower, Half Dome, Mt. Baker and the Adirondack 46. To date, his Charity Climbs have raised over $23,000. His 2015 Charity Climb will benefit the Alport Syndrome Foundation, a rare and sometime fatal kidney disease that impacts his daughter.
With his blog, workshops and consultations, Dr. Tom has helped thousands of people achieve greater success and happiness. Dr. Tom is an inspiring example of what can be accomplished if one follows their dreams. He lives where he grew up in Albany where he would rather be rock and ice climbing and raising his daughter, Rachel.
