How do vacant and abandoned properties impact our lives, our neighborhoods, our cities? How can a public art project empower us to change the places and policies that shape where we live?
People abandon their properties for many reasons, and when they do, they leave complicated problems behind. Breathing Lights is designed to shed light on those reasons and problems, start conversations, engage neighbors, inspire artistic expression, and spotlight efforts of reclamation by the Land Bank corporations, leaders and organizations of our communities.
Breathing Lights is a multi-city public art installation that will temporarily transform vacant structures from pockets of shadow into places of warmth, reminding us that they once were, and can again, be filled with life.
Through an extensive arts and education program that includes neighborhood “hub” activities, youth media projects, arts events and vacant building reclamation clinics, Breathing Lights will bring together neighbors, citizens, and organizations to collaborate and communicate about the impacts of vacancy and the importance of community revitalization.
Please come help set the stage for the Breathing Lights project in Albany.
