'The Shape of Things To Come' February Exhibit Set

Albany Barn, Inc. presents “The Shape of Things to Come” on Friday, February 3, 2012, at “Stage 1,” located at 46-48 North Swan Street. A reception will be held from 5:00pm – 9:00pm in conjunction with the “1st Friday” arts walk. Admission is free.

“The Shape of Things to Come” features sculptures in metal, stone, and wood by Michael Cataldo, Frank Cavoli, and James Donato.

In 2005, Michael Cataldo enrolled at Modern Welding School and graduated with high honors.  Cataldo expanded his metal knowledge by attending classes at the Center for Metal Arts in Florida, NY and the New England School of Metalwork in Auburn, ME.  Michael also took classes under Master Blacksmith Uri Hofi.  Michael’s gates for Prism Glassworks on Fourth Street in Troy earned a “Best Renovation Award” from the Little Italy neighborhood association.  www.aggressivemetalworks.com

Frank Cavoli has been sculpting for 21 years, experimenting with different media. His skill with a chainsaw led to a thriving business carving folk art statues of wildlife, and also afforded him the opportunity to mentor others in the technique and style. Cavoli studied stone sculpting at the Montoya Company with Dale Enochs; he claims abstract stone-carving provides a meditative outlet for his creative side. He has exhibited his award-winning work at the Saratoga County Art Expo and Saratoga Art in the Park.  Cavoli maintains two studios in the Adirondacks.

Born in 1948 and raised on a farm in Upstate New York, James Donato discovered woodworking in high school.  Fellow exhibiting artists, Frank Cavoli, introduced James to sculpting with a chainsaw.  James proceeded to open his own shop in Voorheesville and went on to tour the U.S. performing in Chainsaw Art competitions.  Locally, James has demonstrated his art form for students at Middleburg Elementary and SUNY Cobleskill.

The exhibition will remain on view through February.  Gallery hours on our main page.
