Debuting at the 6th Annual Fusion on October 20, 2017, the Albany Barn will present the first ever Chair Show.
When the Barn was developed, many artifacts of the original institution, St. Joseph’s Academy, remained. These artifacts help tell the story of the many lives The Barn lived before it became the arts incubator as we know it today. We have collected over a dozen of the Academy’s original wood and metal desks and are seeking a dozen artists to re-imagine and re-purpose these chairs as pieces of art.
We are seeking 12 artists to take part in the re-visualization of these chairs to help us recreate a St. Joseph’s classroom for 2017. We will be taking creative submissions utilizing any medium and/or style. Creative submissions that push the boundary of the classroom and desktop theme are encouraged! The classroom unveiling will be held as part of Fusion on October 20, 2017, at the Albany Barn. All selected artists will be given a ticket to the event.
Submissions will be accepted by e-mail only to firstname.lastname@example.org and should include the following:
– E-mail containing “Chair Show” in the subject line
– Body of the e-mail should include a description of the intended design for the chair and should submitted for consideration with title, medium, dimensions, and pricing
– If applicable, please include a sketch of your idea
Submissions will be accepted through Thursday, September 7th . Artist will be notified by Friday, September 8th . Once accepted, selected artists should send an artist statement and/or bio, and social media handles or page links so we can tag you in event promotions,
-Upon selection, we will have pick up desks either Saturday, September 9th or Monday, September 10th (call (518) 935-4858 to schedule a time) for artists to select and pick up their chairs.
Pieces must be able to be delivered to Albany Barn in ready for display by Thursday, October 12, 2017 to be included in the show.
